Princess Love - Chapter 36

"I'm sorry you had to come all this way..." Kim whimpered in Kevin's arms.  He held her tight on the bed.
"Don't worry about it." Kevin looked down at her and gaver her a little smile.  She looked at him for a long moment, wondering how she got so lucky.  She laid back on the bed and fell asleep in Kevin's arms.
When Kevin saw that she had fallen asleep he stood up and looked around the room.  He went downstairs and picked up his bag and brought it upstairs to the spare room.  He wondered where Kim's mother was, he decided that she probably went shopping.
The phone ran and Kevin went into the kitchen and picked it up.
"Hello?" He asked in a tired, deep voice.
"Tell her that I WILL be back." Bruce's voice hit Kevin like a knife.
"I don't think so." Kevin slammed the phone down and stood up.  He took off the black jacket that went with his suit.  He was sweating furiously, but he didn't seem to notice.
He went into the living room and sat down.  Five minutes later he stood up with a jolt at the sound of the ringing telephone.  He let it ring a couple of times and then stood up and picked it up, putting it slowly to his ear.
"Look you son of a b-"
"Kevin?" Susan's voice asked and he turned red even though she couldn't see him.
"Oh, yeah... Sorry, I thought you were someone else."  Kevin shook his head in embarrassment.
"Thought so... Did you talk to Kim yet?" Susan asked.  She was still sitting on the hospital bed.
"May I ask you a question?" Kevin politely asked, his tone changing greatly from his opening sentence.
"Of course." Susan thought that Kevin was a very nice young man and it also helped that he was very good looking.
"Well... who is Bruce?" Kevin asked bluntly, he just wanted to know.  Susan paused for a long moment.
"An old boyfriend." She said quickly, she really didn't want to get into it, and Kevin could tell.
"Where are you?" He asked, curiously.
"You should talk about that with Kim also.  I gotta go." And with that, she hung up.
Kevin stared in amazement at the phone.  There was a lot that Susan didn't want to discuss.
It was late, almost 10 o'clock and Kevin was jet lagged.  He went up to Kim's room and changed into a pair of shorts.  He went back downstairs and tried to secure the door as much as possible.  He made his way back up to Kim's room and laid down beside her.
"Kevin... I don't know where to begin..." Kim's soft voice spoke behind him.  He turned around so that he was facing her and turned the dim bedside light on.
"You don't have to say anything, not yet."  Kevin took her hand in his and looked into her tired brown eyes.
"I want to..." She paused for a long time, studying Kevin's eyes.  She didn't know what to do or say.  She didn't think he would understand and he might get upset because she had something SO big from him.  So big that she wasn't sure if it was going to scar her for life or not.  She had points in her relationship with Kevin when she just wanted to get up and leave, going far, far away.  NOt because she didn't love or care for him, she did.  She had lost trust from all men, but there were times when Kevin was so loving and sweet that she couldn't bare to leave him, she was to lucky.
There were also times when they had little fights and she was scared; What if he hit her? She would never be able to trust him again.  It had never happened yet, nearly two years since their first date, but anything could happen.  She knew that he would never hit her, but there was always the twinge of fear that ran through her.
"Kim?" Kevin looked at Kim in worry.  She looked like she was a million miles away and going farther.
"Huh?" She looked up at him and shook her head, as if she were trying to rid the thoughts from her mind.
"Just go back to sleep, we will worry about all of this later."  Kevin brushed his hand on her cheek and went to turn the light off, but she took his hand and pushed him down so that he couldn't turn it off.
"No... Kevin, I have so much to tell you." She looked down at her hands, which were resting on her lap.  She pulled herself up, propping herself up with pillows so that she was in a sitting position, Kevin did the same.
He already knew part of what she was going to say, but he wanted the truth to come out of her mouth.  He nodded and waited patiently for her to gather her thoughts.
"When I was a senior I was shy and extremely reserved.  I had no friends and nobody to talk to.  Worst of all, I had no date to the Senior Prom." She smiled at Kevin who gave her a little smile in return.  "I was sitting at lunch and this guy came over and asked me if I wanted to go with him and I said yes.  I didn't know why he asked me, but he did and I thought I was lucky, so I didn't worry about it.
"All I know about this guy was that his name was Bruce and that he was a jock.  He was short but he was an excellent football player.  He went out with a lot of girls, he never went anywhere alone.
"Anyways, I went to the Prom, looking better than I ever had.  I layered my hair, wore makeup and put in my contacts.  I wore a short red dress and I was happy to receive the stares that I got." Kim looked at Kevin and spoke to him, bluntly.
"Kevin, I was a virgin and lets just say that before the night was through, I wasn't anymore."  She paused and waited to see what Kevin was going to say.
His green eyes searched her face, his jaw was tense and his hands were clenched, his knuckles were white.  "Were you...?  Did he...?" He didn't want to say it and Kim watched him, waiting to see what he was going to say.
"Kim, were you raped?" He asked and she slowly nodded.
"Yes.  Immediatly following the prom.  He was drunk and I didn't think that he meant to do it, he told me that he loved me, I believed him.  NO boy, or man, ever said that to me.  After that, I thought I would never leave him, he said those three words that I had never heard come from a man's mouth, directed to me." Kevin watched her, mesmerized.  She spoke eloquently, not sheading a tear.
"I stayed with him and went to a Community College outside of L.A.  By sophmore year I was pregnant.  I knew it was going to happen and I was just surprised that it hadn't happened sooner.  I dropped out and Bruce dumped me, I thought I was lost.  He did hit me, but I always thought I
deserved it.
"Tim died right before his first birthday..." Kim couldn't help it, he began to cry.  "It was a blood clot in his brain, he was so young... Bruce never even saw his son or knew that he was dead.  I had to do it all by myself.  My parents wre upset about the whole thing and they tried their hardest to be there for me, but I knew that they were disappointed in me.
"I started school a couple months after Tim was born, putting him in day-care.  I missed him so much, I loved him more than anything I had ever loved before..."
"Why didn't you tell me all of this?" Kevin asked gently and moved over to put his arm around her.
"I was embarrassed...and ashamed." She looked away from Kevin.
"You never have to be embarrassed or ashamed around me." He smiled at her and she looked at him.
"Why am I so lucky?" She looked at him and he leaned down and kissed her.
"I'm the lucky one."  He leaned his head on hers.  "Never be scared when you are with me, I would never hurt you and you know that."
"I do...but Bruce was so different."
"Bruce isn't here." Kevin turned the light off and kissed her .  "I love you and I mean that."  Kevin whispered in her ear and they laid down.
"I love you Kevin..." She drifted off to sleep.
