It said and AJ picked up the phone and dialed the number that he had
remembered. He stumbled
over the numbers and it took his three trys before he
got it right.
"Now I know why they say dial carefully." AJ said and looked up at
Brian. AJ listened
to the ringing of the phone and his heart lept when he heard
her voice answer.
"Hi, it's me." AJ said and there was a long pause.
"Oh... Hi. I really need to talk to you." Jasmine said.
"Okay... talk." He said, standing up and pacing the room.
"I can't, can you come here?" She asked.
"No, I'm here helping a friend." He said.
"Okay, well. Talk to you later." She said and took the reciever from
her here ear and put it
back when she heard AJ shout "No! No!"
"No, I'll be there tonight." He said and got his suitcase.
"It's going to rain, you might not be able to." She said.
"I don't care, meet me somewhere."
"Okay, I will meet you at the parking lot by the park. I know it is a
weird place but it is
easy to find and to get there from the airport. I checked
flight times and you should be here by nine local time. I will be
there at ten." She said
and he nodded.
"Okay, see you then." He hung up and quickly finished packing his
suitcase.
"Where are you going?" Brian asked, he didn't even know who AJ had
been talking to.
"Home. I will try to be back soon." AJ said and opened the door.
"Why?" Brian asked, AJ was acting bizarre.
"Long story." He said and ran to the elevator and went down to the
lobby. He didn't
bother with the bodyguard, he just hailed a cab and waited
in the car until they
got to the airport. He put on a black baseball cap,
pointed downwards so it
was hard to see his face. He wore simple black
sunglasses and a pair
of baggy blue jeans and a white tank top.
He quickly bought tickets for the next flight and barely made it.
He sat down,
exhausted and looked across the aisle. He was sitting near the
back of the plane and
there were a bunch of kids sitting there. AJ smiled at
the kid across from him,
who smiled back.
"What's your name?" The little boy asked as his mother took his hand
when the plane took off.
"My name is AJ, what is yours?" He said and smiled at the little boy.
"Mark." He said and smiled. The plane straightened out and
the little
boy stood up and went over to the empty seat next to AJ.
"Honey, don't bother him." His mother said and AJ smiled and shook
his head.
"Don't worry about it." He said and the little boy sat next to him.
"Why are you wearing a hat and sunglasses? It isn't sunny." The
little boy said and pointed
outside.
"Don't be rude!" His mother scolded and AJ smiled.
"I'll take them off." He said and took his hat off as well as his
sunglasses.
"Why are your ears pierced like a girl?" The boy inspected AJ's ears
and AJ smiled.
"I don't know... I like to be different." The little boy stood up,
looking at his mother.
"I want my ears pierced!" He yelled and AJ patted him on the back.
"It's only cool when you get older." AJ reassured the little boy.
"Okay, I will wait then." The boy sat back down on the chair next to
AJ.
"What kind of music do you like?" Mark asked.
"I like everything." AJ said.
"I love the Backstreet Boys! They are really cool! My older brother
calls me a sissy because
I like them." Mark said.
"Aw, that's not nice. You aren't a sissy because you like certain
music or clothes, don't
worry about them. They just don't have that great taste
in music that you have." AJ said and smiled.
"Can you sing?" Mark asked and his mother rolled her eyes. She was
so happy that AJ wasn't
flipping out at him yet. Sometimes Mark talked a little
to much to strangers.
"Sort of." AJ said, smiling to himself.
"Can you sing me a song?" Mark asked.
"Honey, leave AJ alone!" His mother scolded again and AJ smiled.
"Don't worry about it, I like little kids." He said and the little
boy looked at him.
"Sing me a song, please?" Mark asked and AJ nodded. He sang quietly
in the little boys' ear.
"If I could right the wrongs that made you cry
I can promise not to say good-night
'Cause I'm holding on
With a love so strong
And I can't take a day without you by my side." AJ raised his voice a
little and the little
boy's mother looked at him in amazement.
AJ continued to sing the rest of "Like A Child" to Mark, who fell
asleep by AJ's side.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Mark's mother asked.
"Because, if I said something Mark wouldn't like me for me anymore.
He would like me because
I am famous and not because of the person that I really
am." Mark slept by AJ's side and AJ handed him over to his mother when
the plane began to descend.
Mark didn't awake when the plane landed and AJ stood up and handed
his sunglasses to Mark's
mother. "Give these to him when he wakes up." AJ said
and began to exit the plane, with is cap over his eyes.
Mark's mother, who's name was Diana, stared in amazement. With his
earrings and tattoos it
was hard to see that AJ really was like a normal person,
if not better. He was smart and polite and loved to make people
laugh, even inspite of
himself.
AJ rushed out of the terminal and hailed a cab.
"Nasty weather, eh?" The little man in the drivers seat asked.
"Sure is." AJ said, looking out the window. The clouds were dark and
the air was wet, the moon
couldn't be seen anywhere.
The cabbie dropped AJ off at the house. AJ wanted to kill time so
he picked
up his car and drove to the bench. He sat there in the dark, empty,
parking lot. The
overhead lights gave just enough light to let AJ study a
piece of paper that he
returned back to his pocket after he briefly studied.
"10:30" He muttered to himself and looked at his watch and then he
looked up. "Uh oh..."
He heard a loud boom and the rain came down, but AJ just
sat there. He stood up and looked around, ignoring the coldness of
the rain
as it poured over him. "Deja Vu." He said, recalling the day when
they had
taped the video for "Quit Playin' Games (With My Heart)." It was
11:00 and
there was no sign of Jasmine.
Just when he was going to give up he saw headlights come towards him.
They stopped by his car and Jasmine opened her window. AJ walked
over to her
and stared at her.
"I just had to tell you this.. I am sorry, that I made you come all
the way out here." She
said, looking at AJ standing there, soaking wet.
"Just tell me." He said and looked at her, his tears mixed with the
rain but she didn't notice.
"I went back to the doctor and got re-tested. I didn't think I even
stabbed myself, I thought
maybe I just got my glove caught. And that was the
case, they were wrong.
I don't have HIV. I plan on suing them. I wanted to
tell you that." She said
and looked at him gently.
"What about us?" He asked and rubbed his eyes and she shook her head.
"I don' think so, I gotta go." She said and put the window back up
and headed out of the
parking lot.
AJ ran to his car and jumped in and followed her to her house. She
didn't even she him behind
her, he didn't reappear until she went to her door to
unlock it.
"If the starts didn't shine,
The sun didn't rise
I would still search for you
Come To Me..." AJ sang and Jasmine slowly turned around.
"Through the darkness
Flowing with the hot sands
Swimming with the cold waters
I would travel anywhere
I would go everywhere for you
Come To Me..." AJ sang and stood in the rain, crying and singing at
the same time.
"Come To Me
Be with me
I would do anything
To be with you
To love you
To hold you in my arms." AJ sang the chorus and opened his arms and
she just stared at him.
"You wouldn't talk to me
You looked at me...
And I wondered what I did
Is there anything I can say
I want to change your mind..." He sang and she showed no movement.
AJ paused and fell to
his knees.
"I... I am on my knees
I look at you and see...
What the future holds for me
Fate can't be changed...
Come To Me..." He sang and look up at her, she was in the doorway and
her face was wet from
tears, not rain.
"I would do anything
To be with you
Make it easier
And come to me
Tell me what you need
And I will Come To You." AJ stood up and came closer to her.
"Come To Me
Be with me
I would do anything
To be with you
To love you
To hold you... to hold you... to hold you in my arms." He said and
walked up to her and held
her in his arms, forgetting about the ran that was falling
behind him, or the neighbors watching them from their windows. They
just wanted to be together
and they knew that fate couldn't be changed...
